There Is No Antimemetics Division by QNTM takes a premise that is wildly original and crafts a mind bending, genre pushing story which pulls the reader in for a ride unlike any other.
His story is part murder mystery, part conspiracy thriller, and part revolutionary story all wrapped up in the rather basic science fiction premise. Unlike many similar books however, his use of multiple and varied POV’s and consistent unexpected twists keeps the narrative feeling fresh and unexpected.
While Crouch touches on some really interesting questions and crafts an emotional, fulfilling ending, if you’re the type of reader who loves exploring the weird and wild limits that Sci-Fi can take you to, you might be left a little underwhelmed.
He has a real knack for establishing a world that feels just a few years removed from our own, like we’re reading an account of something that might actually happen in about ten years. Pair this with his ability to create engaging yet flawed characters and maintain a steady, well structured story, Weir has a winning formula.
As an average person thrust into an extraordinary situation, Jake does his best but can’t help but form relationships and build a life for himself, entwining himself deeper and deeper into the bygone era of the 1950’s and 60’s, becoming a man entrenched in a time where he does not belong.
