Launch Day

After all this time, it’s finally here!

I woke up this morning as a published author. It’s a strange thing to think and an even stranger thing to say out load. When I started this journey almost two years ago, I never really thought much about what it would be like to publish my book. I just enjoyed writing. I have always been creative, ever since I was the overly imaginative kid who enjoyed doodling in class rather than paying attention like I should have been. Now, seeing the orders coming in and thinking about my book actually being shipped out to readers all over the world, I am struck by crazy all of this has been. It seems like a whirlwind that isn’t slowing down anytime soon, but rather, is gaining speed and growing at an reckless rate. Looking into how one even begins to get their book published seemed to suddenly turn into me hiring a cover designer, then into to me stepping off the proverbial cliff into freefall as clicked submit and sent my final manuscript in as was scrambling to figure out marketing and advertising.

But, despite all the whiplash it’s left me with, publishing has been a largely positive endeavor for me. I have met a lot of great people online and in person, had many positive interactions and found the book community surprisingly welcoming and receptive. People aren’t flooding my inbox with requests to read my book, but most are receptive and encouraging and willing to chat with me, a virtual nobody in the space. Readers and others authors are enthusiastic, more than willing to give a newcomer a fair chance and even to help them as much as they are able to. The publishing world is a maze of a confusing corridors and pitfalls and dead ends. But if there’s a one positive I can say makes the whole thing slightly less daunting, it’s the people you get to traverse it with.

I suppose, this being a launch day post and all, I should probably end with some sort of advertisement. Please, if you haven’t already, go check out The Scion Conspiracy on Amazon. It’s available in e-book, paperback and hardcover, as well as through Kindle Unlimited. I appreciate every single person who picks up my work and I so look forward to reading your reviews and feedback!
